Say hello to the Smyth Sewer

Oct 23 2012

Please join us in welcoming the newest member of our growing family of shop machinery: The Smyth Sewer!

This antique machine pokes tiny holes in folded book signatures and then sews them all together with thread. It’s the most beautiful piece of old equipment we have — it reminds me of my oldest typewriter at home. Gorgeous!

We still need to find a permanent spot for it in the shop. Oh yeah, and we need to learn how to use it. But by early next year we should have the capability of perfect binding true lay-flat books!
